Milford E. Beckman, 75, of Oakland died suddenly on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on May 12, 1938 in Swanton, he was the son of the late Earl S. and Hazel (Weimer) Beckman. He worked, for 28 years, at Garrett National Bank, where he retired as president and CEO. On September 4, 1992, he started Garrett Mortgage, which he managed until 2002. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and was a member of the Army Band. He was also a lifetime member of both the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post # 71 and Elks Lodge # 2481, having served as a financial officer for both organizations. He was also a member of the Mountain City Band and the Oktoberfest Band. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, C. Louise (Fike) Beckman; a son, Jason A. Beckman and wife Lisa of Oakland; two grandsons, Corbin Beckman and Aizen Beckman; sisters, Susan Butt and husband Sam of Oakland, Helen Bittinger of Keyser, WV, and Mary Savage of Washington, PA; and brothers, Harry Beckman of Hamstead, MD and Harold Beckman and wife Georginna of Keyser, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth E. Rhodes and Beulah M. Dean. According to his wishes, Milford was cremated and a memorial service will be held on a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
