Melvin Snyder

Melvin Charles Snyder, 83, of Gormania, WV died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, MD.

Born December 25, 1928 in Horse Shoe Run, WV, he was the son of the late Charles Albert and Dove Myrtle (Knotts) Snyder. He attended Horse Shoe Run Elementary School and later continued his education in the United States Air Force when he joined at age seventeen. During his service he was a truck driver, crane operator, and, later, a cook. Mr. Snyder was employed at Bausch & Lomb, Inc. where he worked as a security guard for many, many years. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

His final days were spent surrounded by his family and friends whom he loved with all his heart. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Helen Snyder of Gormania, WV, Ellen Kaye Evans of Horse Shoe Run, WV, and Cheryl Denetta Burnsworth of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Scott Evans, Michael Evans, Kristie Jones Smith, Brandon Jones, and Anna Maria Chianese; and four great-grandchildren, Cody Smith, Brenay Elizabeth Smith, Ellarie Grace Smith, and River Drayton Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Cecil Snyder and two sisters, Ruth Snyder and Mary Michaels.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 3rd at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at 12 PM with Pastor Matthew Paugh officiating.

Interment will follow in Bayard Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Deer Park VFW Post 10077 and the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 of Oakland.
