Melvin Lipscomb

Melvin Homer Lipscomb, 95, of Cumberland died on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home in Oakland. Born on May 12, 1917 in Aurora, WV, he was the son of the late Homer and Sophie (Wotring) Lipscomb. He was a retired strip miner and enjoyed restoring old cars and hunting. He was a former member of the Potomac Antique Car Club. He is survived by two sons, William "Bud" Lipscomb of Swanton and Claude Lipscomb of Bloomington; four stepchildren; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Jean Moats of Aurora, WV and Ruby Olive Long of MI; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three wives, Mina (Durr) Lipscomb in 1967, Laura T. (Lee) Lipscomb in 1985 and Marie (Smith) Lipscomb in 1990; three brothers, Claude Arnold Lipscomb, Guy Franklin Lipscomb and Foster Dayton Lipscomb; and a sister, Mary Ellen Whisner. Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 23rd from 4 to 6 PM at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 24th at 11 AM with Pastor Cheryl George officiating. Interment will follow in Aurora Cemetery.
