Maurice Francis “Casey” Treacy passed away peacefully at Doey’s House Hospice Care in Hagerstown, Md. on Thursday, June 14, 2018 following a brief and sudden illness.
Born April 17, 1919 in Oakland, Md. he was the son of the late James P. and Estelle Rasche Treacy.
Following graduation from Oakland High School in 1936, where he was in the marching band, he attended Charlotte Hall Military Academy, Georgetown University, West Virginia University and graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Pre-Med in 1944. After joining the Navy in 1942 and graduating from Notre Dame with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant, he served in the South Pacific on the “U.S.S. Kenton” in WWII and on the “Mispillion”. He was co-owner of the Treacy Department Store in Oakland until 1953 when he moved to the Frostburg area in the insurance business. He retired from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper in sales followed by work at the Towson University library. A lifelong musician, Maurice played the piccolo and flute as well as numerous other instruments, completing his musical career in 2013 as flautist in the Williamsport Community Band.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, the late Elizabeth Talbott Treacy.
In addition to his brother, William O. Treacy and wife Judy, he is survived by daughters: Cynthia Treacy Folk, Suzanne Treacy Woodside, Jane Treacy (Phillip Eagleburger) and Lisa Treacy Lamberth, (Terry); his grandchildren: Jennifer Barrett, Erin Folk, Meghan Lamberth, Cara Folk and Nicholas Lamberth (Allison), one great-granddaughter, Amy Barrett and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s The Apostle Parish Catholic Church in Oakland Md. on June 18, 2018 at 10am followed by an 11am service and graveside interment at the Oakland Cemetery. Flowers and/or donations can be made to St Peter’s The Apostle Parish Catholic Church in Oakland, Md or Williamsport Community Band, Williamsport, MD.
