Mary Deloris (Helbig) Michael, 94 of Oakland, MD, died September 7, 2010 at Oakland Nursing & Rehab.
She was born July 24, 1916 in Oakland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Della (Browning) Helbig. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Michael, brothers, Fred Helbig, MIA, WWII in 1945 and infant brother Jackie in 1925.
She graduated from the Oakland High School in 1934 and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD in 1937. After working in Baltimore for a few years, she returned to Oakland and worked at Garret County Memorial Hospital when it first opened and then worked for Dr. J. Alvarez for 35 yeas.
Mary was a life long member of Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church of Oakland and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross Blood Program for 22 years.
She is survived by three children: Robert Michael and wife Karen of Naperville, IL. Thomas Michael and wife Kathryn of Oakland, MD, Barbara J. Mosser and husband Harold of Middletown, MD, one brother, Don Helbig and six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A. 21 N. 2nd Street, Oakland, MD, Friday, September 10, 2010, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. by Father Don Parson, celebrant.
Interment will be at Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
