Mary Matthews

Mary Ellen Riggleman Matthews, age 81, of Kitzmiller, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. She was born in Vindex, Maryland on January 9, 1939 to John Oliver and Naomi Ruth (Michaels) Riggleman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Leland Ellsworth Matthews and siblings, Shirley Riggleman Tasker, David “Big Dave” Riggleman and Ronald Riggleman.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Mona Armstrong of Kitzmiller, Naomi Paugh of Swanton, Georgia Lipscomb of Brunswick, Nancy Upole of Oakland, Linda Evans (Bill) of Kitzmiller; a brother, Richard Riggleman (Judy) of Merrimac, WI; special nieces Tammi Kuhn (Bud), Mary Miller, Cindy Ahern (Rick) and Teresa Lipscomb (Dave); special nephews, Davey Armstrong, Nick Evans (Devin Stillwagon) and Keith “Coke” Nicholas (Ginny) who always helped her out; and several other nieces and nephews.  Mary is also survived by her lifelong best friend Betty Dewitt and her beloved pets Blackie, Missy and Tiny.

Mary was a homemaker who made the best homemade bread and cinnamon sticks. She gave ice cream to all the neighborhood kids who will remember her fondly. Mary favorite pastime was playing Bingo and watching the birds! She loved our “Aunt Parties” hosted by her niece, Teresa.

Mary will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her whole family.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home,P.A., 710 Church Street, Kitzmiller, Maryland on Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 2 to 4 PM at which time a funeral service will be held. Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden at a later date.
