Marvin Hollingsworth

Marvin Eugene Hollingsworth, 65, of Oakland passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 30, 1948 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Norman M. and Catherine (Boteler) Hollingsworth. He was a graduate of Central High School, a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War, and a thirty-year employee of Safeway. Marvin enjoyed being an antiques and sports collectibles merchant after his retirement. He also had many hobbies including watching sports, running track, penny slot machines, bargain hunting, fast dancing, and especially spending time with his family. Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vickie Hollingsworth; his son, Steve Hollingsworth and wife Lara of Oakland; his daughter, Vikki Hollingsworth and husband David Coontz, II of La Plata; his two grandsons, who brought him never-ending joy, Michael and John Hollingsworth of Oakland; a sister, Joann Tolbert and husband Glenn of Culpeper, VA; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, July 31 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, August 1st at 10 AM with Pastor Matthew Paugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
