On Sunday, October 4, 2020, Martin Dale Gaither (60), a loving husband and father, passed away at his home surrounded by family. Martin was born on February 29, 1960 to the late Elmer and Mabel (Dumire) Gaither in Parsons, WV.
Martin graduated from Mountaineer High School in Davis in 1978. After high school, he attended Potomac State College focusing on computer programming but later decided to obtain skills and credentials to pursue careers in pipe-fitting, welding, fabrication, millwright, and iron-working. He retired from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. In work, he was a high-precision craftsman and a perfectionist tradesman with a splendid work ethic and leadership abilities for which he inspired others. He was a member of the Leadmine United Methodist Church.
Martin is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Lisa (King) Gaither, of Eglon,WV and three beautiful, well-accomplished daughters: Bethany and husband John Donaldson of Cumberland, MD; Karen and husband Jason Flores of Garner, NC; April and husband Timothy Jones of Eglon. He leaves behind eight grandchildren Zakary, Dakota, Kaden, Skyler, Rylee, Isabella, William, and David; three brothers Gordon, Theodore, and Elmer; five sisters Irene, Ruth, Edna, Susan, and Carol; a beloved mother-in-law, Judy King; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Martin was the epitome of an outdoor mountain man from his toddler years of digging holes in the yard to his final hours of sitting on the porch in the sunshine. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with those he held dear. Among the many gifts the Lord gave Martin was the ability to give to others through his talents with woodworking and building. His talents have graced the lives of many people who were dear to him.
