Marie Winters Teets, 90, died February 22, 2014 at Cortland Acres in Thomas, WV.
She was born October 23, 1923 in Thomas, WV a daughter of the late Cecil Roth and Anna Elizabeth Milkint Winters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Teets whom she married June 2, 1946 and was married for 65 years before he passed away in 2011, a sister, Louise Life and grandson, John Shepherd. Survivors include 2 sons; Michael Scott (Sharon) Teets, Jefferson City, TN, Mark Ellis (LaDeana) Teets, Aurora, WV, 2 daughters; Mary Elizabeth (Donald) Shepherd, Evergreen, CO, Martha Ann (Merlin) Reish, Millboro, VA, 1 brother; Kenneth Winters, Bridgeport, WV, 8 grandchildren; Tom (Jennifer) Teets, Micah (Dayna) Reish, Andrew Shepherd, Lindsey (Rebecca) Teets, Marilyn Reish, Stephen Shepherd, Matthew Reish, Elizabeth Shepherd and 3 great-grandchildren.
She and her husband operated a dairy farm in Eglon, WV. Later she worked as the Postmaster in Eglon. After retirement she accompanied her husband on several disaster trips through the Church of the Brethren. She knitted over 1000 sweaters for the Guidepost Knit For Kids Program. She was a member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren where she had been involved with music, teaching Sunday School and was a deaconess. She was also a local 4-H club leader for many years.
At the request of the deceased her remains were cremated. Friends will be received on Saturday March 1, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM the funeral hour at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren. Rev. Gary Meeks will officiate. Hinkle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. www.hinklefuneralhome.com
