Margaret Virginia Simmons, 90, of Emoryville, WV passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV. Prior to her death, she was a resident of Heartland of Keyser for the past year. Born February 27, 1920 in Gleason, WV, she was the daughter of the late Peter Summers and Josephine Mullenax (Gregory) Summers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence E. Simmons in 2004; a grandson, Rodger A. Simmons in 2007; a brother, a half-brother and three half-sisters, leaving her as the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her four children, Marshall B. Simmons and wife Mary Jo of Owings Mills, MD; Carolyn F. Homan and husband Paul of New Creek, WV; Lauren E. Copeland and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, OK; and Roger R. Simmons and wife Patsy of Mt. Storm, WV; five grandsons, one great- grandson, two great- granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a life-long member of the Emoryville United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as the Emoryville postmistress with the U.S. Postal Service for 19 years. But the job that she loved best, held the longest, and claimed she was the richest from, was that of wife, mother and grandmother. Her ever-present smile will be so sadly missed.
Friends will be received at the David A Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, MD on Saturday, March 20th from 12 noon to 3 pm, followed immediately by graveside services and internment in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV.
