It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Margaret "Margie" Meyers on March 10, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, following a brief battle with a rare neuromuscular disorder. Margie was born on July 8, 1959, and was preceded in death by her father, John F. "Jack" Meyers Jr., and Uncles Fred Meyers, John Mertz, Gary Rymer, John A Martin, Aunts Janet Martin, Jean Meyers and cousins Francis, Michael and Jack Mertz.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Meyers of Westernport, MD; her sister, Kay Duckworth and husband, Harry, of Lemont, PA; her sister, Karen Meyers of Greensboro, NC; her niece, Melissa Duckworth of State College, PA; and her nephew, Luke Duckworth of Lemont, PA. Additionally, she is survived by her aunts and uncles: Margie Rymer (Middlebourne,WV), Joan Gavin (Boalsburg, PA), Francis and Mary Anne Meyers (Frostburg, MD), James Meyers (Dayton, OH), Mary Anne Mertz (Westernport, MD), and Lana Meyers (Webster Groves, MO) along with numerous beloved cousins.
In addition to her biological family, Margie was fortunate to be surrounded by many people she loved, with relationships forged through her faith and her love of movies and music, including: Vic Cueva (Westernport, MD); Matthew Cathell (Philadelphia, PA); Kaethe Sandman and Pete Anderson (Columbus, OH); Camilla and Dave Rawe (Grantsville, MD); Elaine Scutti (Bellefonte, PA); Pat Gravley (Greensboro, NC); and many others. The family is thankful for their presence and support during this difficult time.
Margie lived a life of service. She served God, her family, her friends, and every dog she ever met. She began her career of service after graduating from LaSalle University in 1981 by working at Saint Peter's Parish in Westernport as the Director of Religious Education (DRE). This began her lifelong mission to grow and strengthen the faith community. Margie touched the lives of many as she continued into the role of Director of the Catholic Educational Ministries Center of Western Maryland, DRE at Good Shepherd Parish in State College, PA, and Director of Mission at Divine Mercy Parish. Margie graduated from Bishop Walsh High School and received her master's degree from Gonzaga University.
She was the first-born child, grandchild, and niece in a family that loved children boundlessly. She grew up surrounded by this love and radiated that love to all those around her. She had a way of making people feel seen and appreciated for their special and unique gifts. She touched the lives of many through sharing her faith and her beautiful voice.
She found her greatest joy in bringing joy to others through sharing experiences, giving treasured gifts, and making memories. She developed the Food and Faith series as she devoted her life to feeding people in both body and spirit.
Friends will be received at Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Homes - Piedmont Chapel, 31 Jones St., Piedmont, WV, on Wednesday, March 19, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Peter's Church in Westernport, MD, on March 20, at 11 AM. with Bishop Adam J. Parker as celebrant and Fr. Ed Hendricks, Fr. Scott Kady and Deacon Jack Orlandi as co-celebrannts. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Margie requested that those in attendance wear bright colors to celebrate her life.
A memorial mass will also be held at Good Shepherd Parish in State College at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Margie requested that donations be made to Saint Peter's Catholic Church of Westernport, MD or Divine Mercy Parish Adult Faith Formation program.
In her final days she communicated that her life was filled with love and she is grateful for all the people that walked alongside her. She reminded us that love lingers, and hers will always be with us. In her honor, please spread love and kindness.
