Marcella Kathern "Kate" Stewart, 88, of Oakland, was welcomed into heaven on Monday, August 6th, 2012 at the home of her son, James. Born on April 14, 1924 in Vindex, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (Uphold) Brown. She was a cashier at Browning's Foodland for over 30 years. Kate loved her children, her grandchildren, all of her family and God. She attended church regularly until she became too ill to do so. She always enjoyed shopping with her sisters, Caroline and Shirley until she could no longer go. She enjoyed her visits to her daughter's lake house where she would sit on the swing and watch the activity on the lake and, occasionally, a boat ride. She loved babysitting her grandsons Logan, now starting college, and Liam until she could no longer do it. She always kept close contact with her granddaughter Kim and grandson Kevin who lives close by and loved spending time with their children, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Jordyn and Brennen. She is survived by a son, James Stewart and fiancAC.e Sandy Brantner; a daughter, Kathern Savage and husband George of Huntingtown; four grandchildren, Jay Stewart, Michael Stewart, Kimberly Savage and Kevin Savage; seven great grandchildren, Logan Stewart, Liam Stewart, Macklin Stewart, Dylan Rayfield, Kaitlyn Rayfield, Jordyn Rayfield, and Brennen Savage; a special friend of 21 years, Russell Costello; two sisters, Caroline Mellinger and husband Clarence and Shirley Brown and husband Billy, all of Oakland; and a brother, Peter Brown and wife Jannette of Aliquippa, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Stewart, who died in 1981; three brothers; and one sister. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, August 8th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the old Loch Lynn Church of God, 121 E. 1st Ave., Loch Lynn at 2 PM on Thursday with Rev. Ivan Ackerman officiating. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV. Memorials may be made to the Oakland Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 43, Oakland, MD 21550 or the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090. Kate was a hard worker, good wife and a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by those who know her.
