Luke Bowman

June 30, 1926 — March 29, 2016

Luke James Bowman, 89, of Oakland died on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on June 30, 1926 in Higgins, PA, he was the son of the late Albert George and Katie Mae (Wesner) Bowman. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War and had worked as a carpenter for William A. Shirer Construction Company. He had also done carpentry work for the Maryland State Parks and DNR, having run the saw mill at New Germany State Park. He retired from the Maryland Forest and Park Service , where his woodworking remains on display. Luke was a member of the Rocky Drean Assembly of God. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed woodworking, hunting and saw milling. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dessie Beryle (Sines) Bowman; two daughters, Katherine Rose Bowman Browning and husband Rich of Mt. Lake Park and Annette Marie Bowman Chapman and husband Terry of Oakland; two sons, James Luke Bowman of New Palestine, IN and Bryon Albert Bowman and fiancAC.e Tracy Humberson of McHenry; grandchildren, Amy Lynn Zimmerman Flanigan and husband Alex of Mt. Lake Park, Emily Laurissa Bowman Vetter and husband Adam of Seattle, WA, Terry Sean Chapman, Ashton Marie Chapman and Jaclyn Rose Chapman, all of Oakland, Charles Granke of Arizona, Andrew Granke of Oakland Rick Madigan of Oakland and Melissa Madigan of Luke; great grandchildren, David James Flanigan, Brooklynn Rose Flanigan , Willow Jane Vetter, Luke Joseph Vetter , Tristen Granke, Cooper Granke, Hailey Granke, Sydney Granke, Ethan Granke, Hayden Granke, Max Granke, Sierra Sutton, Payton Sutton, Tara Moreland, Nikki Beckman and Jessica Sharpless; great great grandchildren, Gabriella Moreland, Dakota Beckman and Shelby Beckman; and a sister, Diana Garner of Cumberland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Luther John Bowman; brothers, Lester Bowman and Barney Bowman; sisters, Mary Bowman Reiner Mae Marie Bowman Simpson, Dorothy Bowman Schade and Phyllis Bowman Gardner; and a daughter in law, Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Bowman. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, March 31st from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, April 1st at 10 AM with Rev. William C. Skipper officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Garrett College Foundation, 687 Mosser Rd., McHenry, MD 21541 or the Garrett Regional Medical Center Foundation, 251 N 4th St., Oakland, MD 21550.
