Louis Schoemer

Louis E. Schoemer, 84, of Oakland died on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on December 13, 1930 in Morgantown, he was the son of the late Louis Edward Schoemer, Sr. and Oma Pearl (Scott) Everly and stepson of the late John Everly. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a 1955 graduate of West Virginia University. He retired, after 37 years of service, from GEICO Insurance Company where he held various positions including Vice President and Manager of Data Processing and Director of the 50 Plus Insurance Programs. He was a member and past president of Rotary International in both Damascus and Oakland, Maryland, a member of the VFW, AMVETS and the American Legion. Louis was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Deer Park and St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Clewiston, FL. In addition to spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed fishing and was a founding member of the Pondhoppers Fishing Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arwana (McClung) Schoemer; two children, John Schoemer and wife Elaine and Kimberly Schoemer Gallo; grandchildren, Samuel D. Schwarz, M.D., Amanda Schoemer Cane, Aubrey Gallo, Esq., Matthew Gallo, Andrew Schoemer, Lucy Schoemer, Sarah Gallo, Natalie Gallo, Hannah Gallo and Cristian Gallo; and a sister, Patricia A. Gamble. A funeral service will be held in St. John's Episcopal Church, Deer Park on Monday, August 31st at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Mount Moriah Cemetery, Valley Point, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
