Lorraine Fike

Lorraine Virginia Texiere Fike, 95, died peacefully on January 16, 2016 at the Bridgewater Home in Bridgewater, Virginia. Lorraine is survived by two children, Judith Fike Riley (Frank) of Luray VA, Michael Fike (Cindy) of Bridgewater VA, daughter-in-law Lisa Fike of Greensburg PA; grandchildren Chris Riley of Luray VA, Lori Riley Maxfield (Stefan) of Seattle WA, Shannon Fike (Loretta Rose) of Petersburg WV, Carol Fike of DeKalb IN, Bethany Fike of Greensburg PA; great-grandchild Liam Maxfield of Seattle WA; siblings, Lowell Texiere of Bridgewater and H.G. Texiere of Harrisonburg VA. She was preceded in death by husband Galen Ezra Fike, son Melvin Fike, daughter Alice Maye Fike, and sister Rosemary Seese. Lorraine was born November 8, 1920 in Port Chester, New York to Jacob William and Mattie Alice Miller Texiere. She graduated from Harrisonburg High School (VA) and Bridgewater College (VA) and attended Bethany Theological Seminary (IL). She married Galen in 1944. Settling in Eglon WV, they operated the post office and the family’s general store. After raising their family, they moved to the Bridgewater Retirement Village in 1988. Lorraine devoted much of her life to church activities. A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, she served in many capacities, most notably as a minister’s wife, Sunday School teacher, and deacon. A graveside service for family and friends, officiated by Mark Teets, will be held on January 21 at 1:00 pm at the Eglon Cemetery (WV). A memorial service at the Bridgewater (VA) Church of the Brethren will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Lorraine may be sent to the Bridgewater Home Auxiliary at 302 North 2nd Street, Bridgewater, VA 22812.
