Lois Cochran Sherrard , 78 passed away on August 17, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Born in Hunt Station, Ohio in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Lake Cochran and Ruth Bird Cochran. She grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
After graduating from Mt Vernon High School she attended Ohio State University, Allegany Community College and graduated from Frostburg State University. She was a student of history and an avid follower of national politics.
She traveled with her husband's career living in Houma, Louisiana, Salt Lake City, Utah, Cumberland, Maryland and Waco, Texas. After earning a real estate sales license she worked with the Workmeister Agency in Cumberland.
While in Waco she was an Art Center of Waco Docent and Benefactor and the Former President of the Historic Waco East Terrace Foundation.a�� She was also a member of the Waco Performing Arts and patron of the Hippodrome Theater. After retiring to Accident, Maryland she was active with the Garrett Arts Council, Mt Laurel Garden Club, and the Deep Creek Yacht Club. She was proud to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death eight months ago, by her husband of 57 years, James Sherrard; is survived by one son, Steve Sherrard and wife Ann of Accident, and their children Sam, Abby, Beck and Lake; two daughters, Lindsay Sherrard and husband Brian Brecto of Prescott, Arizona and grand children Callie, Nathan, Liam and Keenan Howard of Prescott, Arizona, and Amy Sicore and husband Jason and their son, Hudson of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Janet Kerwood of Phoenix, Arizona, one brother, Donald Cochran and wife Lenore of Mt Vernon, Ohio.
Lois loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. She enjoyed many adventures with her grandchildren and with her husband took pleasure in traveling with recent trips to Costa Rica, Italy, and Europe.
A gracious hostess and loyal friend, she will be fondly remembered.
The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, 21 N Second Street, Oakland, on Thursday evening, August 19 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
