Lewis Milton Marks, I, 89, of Oakland passed from this life into Glory with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Born on February 6, 1926 in Berryburg, WV, outside of Philippi, he was the son of the late Arnett Delbert and Elda R. (Baughman) Marks. He was a member of the Point Pleasant Baptist Church in Philippi, Oakland Lodge AF&AM 192, Cumberland Scottish Rite 33rd Degree, York Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland, Harige Clown Unit - Harpo, Tall Cedars, Hillbilly Clan, Campers Club, Royal Order of Jesters, Deer Park VFW #10077 and the Oakland American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71. Mr. Marks was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the 70th Infantry Division 1st Class Company 2, 274th in World War II. He was a POW and recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a devoted husband, loving father, father in law and grandfather who was known to many as "Pops". He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mabel Emajane (Tucker) Marks; two sons, Lewis Milton Marks, II and wife Sheila of Oakland and Kenneth F. Marks and wife Leeanna of Kitzmiller; two grandsons, Kenneth "Brandon" Marks and wife Francesca of St. Louis, MO and Logan Marks and Heather Brant of McHenry; one granddaughter, who he held in his heart, McKenzie L. Wotring; one brother, Aaron Blair Marks and wife Pearl of Philippi, WV; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother in law, Ada Lou (Marks) Ashby and husband Carrol. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, February 21st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Sunday, February 22nd from 1 to 2 PM after which time a funeral service, with military honors, will be held with the Rev. Vicki D. Sheppard officiating. Private family interment will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Philippi, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, PO Box 1416, Cumberland MD, 21502 Attn: Transportation Unit.
