Leland Matthews

Leland Ellsworth Matthews, 72, of Kitzmiller died on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on December 12, 1942 in Elk Garden, WV, he was a son of the late Dewey L. and Melinda D. (Rhodes) Matthews. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a coal miner and, later, worked for Kraft prior to his retirement. Leland was a member of the Deer Park VFW Post #71 and the Deer Park Sportsman's Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ellen (Riggleman) Matthews; two sisters, Deanna Arnold and Marion Teets; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lanny Matthews, Leroy Matthews, William Matthews, Loyal Matthews, Eleanor Matthews, Arvil Greaser, Joanne Paugh, Gerald Matthews and Yvonne Nicholas; and a step-brother, Dewey Matthews. A funeral service, with military honors, will be held in the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church St., Kitzmiller on Wednesday, July 15th at 12 noon. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden.
