Kathy Louise DeBerry, 68, of Oakland became an angel of the Lord. She passed away peacefully at her home holding her families hands, on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Born on August 9, 1953, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Harold Elroy and Jessie Marie (Wotring) Gnegy.
Kathy had many jobs over the years but none she valued more than that of being a mother and a grandmother. She showed her kids love and affection everyday and helped them become the caring and generous adults they are. Her grandchildren were the most important thing in her life as was evident to anyone who ever visited by the number of pictures she had of them showcasing their lives on her living room wall. She enjoyed spending time with them everyday, teaching them how to bake cookies, knit, and make crafts. Kathy was instrumental in helping her husband operate the family farm and spent her summers selling sweet corn at the corn stand. She was a lifetime member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren where she served as a youth group leader when her kids were younger and more recently enjoyed attending prayer shawls with many of the women of the church.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gary DeBerrry; daughter, Danielle Friend and husband Eddie; son, Jamie DeBerry and wife Crystal, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Nicholas Friend, Tailynn Friend, and Dustin DeBerry, all of Oakland; her brothers, Junior Gnegy and wife Dorothy, Bob Gnegy, Larry Gnegy and wife Jerry, and Ron Gnegy and wife Lori; numerous nieces and nephews; a very special cousin, Tom Dodge; and her chocolate lab and four legged friend, Baxter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tim Gnegy and a sister in law, Marge Gnegy.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, from 5 to 7 PM and at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 10 to 11 AM. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Carl Fike officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to Hospice of Garrett County for all their love and support during this stressful time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550, in Kathy's memory.
