Karen L. Friend, 65, of Oakland died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born December 11, 1946 in Accident, the daughter of the late Earl and Theresa (Wotring) Deal. Karen was a hairdresser in Oakland for over 35 years. She was a prior member of the American Legion and Red Hat Society. She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Friend of Oakland; two daughters, Terri Jo Friend of Oakland and Alanna Cannon and husband Steve of Kentucky; six grandchildren, Blake Fazenbaker, Santanna Howdyshell, Wyatt Dove, Joel Dove, Jaiden Cannon and Maddi Cannon; four sisters, Connie Wilson of Oakland, Marlene Glass of Jarrettsville, MD, Eilene Beckman of Georgia, and Janice Georg of Accident; special sister in law, Erma Dewitt; special nieces, Lori Hatcher, Lacy House, and Lisa Schlosnagle; special friends, Carolyn Lower, Vickie Berry, and Tracey Slagle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother whom helped raise her, "Giggy" Ruth Eichelberger; a granddaughter, Lana Howdyshell; a brother, Ervin Deal; and a sister, Beverly Ruth Dewitt. Friends will be received on Monday, January 23 from 3 to 5 & 7 to 9 PM at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD.
