Junior Shillingburg

Junior L. "JR" Shillingburg, 80, of Elk Garden, WV died on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at his home. Born on November 30, 1935 in Morgantown, WV, he was the son of the late James H. "Bud" and Hallie (Mayhew) Shillingburg. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was a coal miner who had worked for Island Creek and Consol Energy. For many years after retiring, he worked on the grounds crew at the Oakland Golf Club and, more recently, at the Thousand Acres Golf Course in Swanton. He was a member of the VFW #3518 in Keyser, WV and Elks Lodge #2481 and American Legion #71 in Oakland, MD. In addition to spending to time with his family, he enjoyed golf, nature, traveling and black powder rifles. He was never as happy as when he was out riding a tractor to cut grass on the golf courses. He is survived by his wife, Mavidell (Dunithan) Shillingburg; two children, Ronald Shillingburg and wife Beverly of Elk Garden and Jerri Lancaster and husband James of Baltimore; grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Nathan and Allison; great grandchildren, Peyton, Brayden, Rachael, Kali, Eva, Bryson and Morgan; three brothers, Harry Robert Shillingburg of Arizona, Donald Shillingburg and wife Bonita of Princeton, WV and Roy Kenneth Shillingburg and wife Lyndol of Elk Garden; a sister, G. Carol Hart and Roger of Baltimore; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David K. Shillingburg and a sister, Gloria Jean Phares. A memorial service will be held in the Nethken Hill United Methodist Church, Elk Garden, on Saturday, August 6th at 11 AM with Pastor Matthew A. Paugh officating. Military honors will be accorded by the combined Honor Guard from the American Legions Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. Interment will be in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Kitzmiller has been entrusted with arrangements.
