Joseph Emile Germain, 68, of Oakland, died at home on April 14, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born June 5, 1944 in Oakland, he was the son of Margaret Germain and the late Emile Germain.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Carolyn Germain of Oakland; and four sons, Scott and wife Kristiann Germain of Oakland, Rob Germain and wife Kyeh Kim of Arlington, Va., Eric and wife Shannon Germain of Oakland, and Patrick Germain of Oakland. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ariana Cartwright, Taylor, Evan, Emilia and Hanna Germain; his mother, Margaret Germain of Oakland; two sisters, Barbara Lewis of Morgantown, W.Va., and Mary Jane Germain of Oakland; two nephews, Jason Lewis of Iowa City, Iowa, and Justin Lewis of Morgantown, W.Va.; and countless other family, friends and co-workers.
Joe was a 1963 graduate of Southern Garrett High School. He was the owner of Germain's Sewing Center for many years and until recently worked for Garrett County Community Action helping local residents with daily transportation needs. He was a charter member of the Oakland Elks Lodge and a former vestry member at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Oakland on Sunday, April 21st at 3 p.m. followed by a potluck meal at the Dennett Road School Cafeteria.
