John James Trefren, 78, formerly of Las Cruces, NM, and most recently of Oakland, passed away on February 1, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on March 5, 1945, in San Francisco, CA, he was the son of the late Verlin "Frenchie" and Patricia (O'Hearen) Trefren.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Later, he worked as a chauffeur for the Baltimore Pilot Association. He was a member of the Las Cruces Optimist Club and spent countless hours volunteering for Veterans Affairs in Las Cruces. He enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, sail boating, and spending time outdoors. He was fondly known by his friends as "Johnnie No Socks" and well known for his sense of humor and joking.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Paulinski and husband Jason of Oakland; three grandchildren, Katelyn Korman and husband Mat, Jordan Foulke, and William Foulke; and six grandchildren, Wyatt, Kendall, Charlotte, Landon, Bailey Jane, and Carter.
Mr. Trefren's request for cremation was honored.
