John Eugene Sturm, 89, of Mountain Lake Park, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center.
Born on August 28, 1930, in Clemtown, WV, he was the son of the late Alva Earl and Isora Jane (Murphy) Sturm. He was a graduate of Philippi High School Class of 1948. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he worked for the B&O Railroad, Jimmy Compton Coal Company, and he retired as a Superintendent at Island Creek Coal Company. After retirement, John worked at Wolf Welding as well as a Greeter at Wal-Mart. He was a member of Grace Reformed Church and his life was a reflection of the Gospel and His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was his sincere desire that others know the grace of God and embrace the Savior that he loved and served.
He is survived by his lovely bride of 64 years, Barbara Carolyn (Stemple) Sturm; his daughter, Lou Ellen Lichty and husband Steven; his son, Lowell Sturm and wife Tonya, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Jesse Skipper, of Oakland, Cain Sturm and wife Caitlyn, of Bruceton Mills, WV, Cory Sturm and girlfriend Katelyn, of Pittsburgh, PA; two great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Ian Skipper, of Oakland; and a sister, Georgia Allen, of Philippi, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Iski.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at the Pleasant Valley Community Center on Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 10AM to 12 Noon. Interment will be held in Clemtown Cemetery at a later date.
