JoAnn Frederick

March 23, 1931 — January 25, 2014

JoAnn (Lawson) Frederick, 82, of Dennett Road Manor, formerly of Mt. Lake Park, died on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Garrett Memorial Hospital. Born on March 23, 1931 in Calvin, WV, she was the daughter of Willy Lawson and Ada (Hickman) Lawson Mellonzi. JoAnn was an extremely talented and artistic woman. She proved her culinary skills by owning and managing several restaurants during the course of her life. She was an avid collector of cookbooks and wrote two cookbooks of her own. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, drawing with chalk, calligraphy, and writing newsletters. Most recently, she helped write the monthly newsletter and daily menus at Dennett Road Manor. JoAnn was quite a bowler and participated in several bowling tournaments around the United States. She also followed Tony Stewart and Richard Petty on the NASCAR circuit. She was a woman who truly loved her family. She took great pride in loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Mariam "Mimi" Frederick of Oakland, Ivan L. "Chip" Frederick, II and girlfriend, Amy Landon of Oakland; a brother, William Lawson of Colorado; a sister, Billie Mae Jackson of Ohio; grandchildren, Dennis Rodeheaver and wife Richann of Mt. Lake Park, Erin Kirchoff and husband Jerrod of Hazleton, WV; great grandchildren, Tyler Rodeheaver and Jane Kirchoff; ex-husband, Ivan "Red" Frederick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Jean Self and a great grandchild, Bryson Rodeheaver. According to her wishes, JoAnn was cremated. Friends will be received at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Mt. Lake Park on Saturday, February 1st from 11 AM to 1 PM at which time a memorial service will be held. The Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
