Jessie Meridale Winters, 94, passed away August 18, 2017 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, MD. Jessie was formerly from Egon, WV. She was born May 13, 1923 in Sunnyside, MD a daughter of the late Raymond Arthur and Della Maud Lipscomb Sims. She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Winters after 49 years of marriage, 2 son-in-laws, David C. Layman and Larry W. Channel, and a great-granddaughter, Kallie M. (Hostutler) Ashby, one brother, Delbert C. Sims, Warren, OH, two sisters, Leota M. Harsh, Frederick, MD, and Alberta D. Moore, Newark, OH. She was the last surviving member of her immediately family.
She is survived by one son, F. Neil (Bonnie) Winters, Oakland, MD, two daughters, Lois (Don) Beckman, Eglon, WV, and Rhonda Channel, Oakland, MD, 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Winters was a graduate of Aurora High School in 1943. She was employed at Hopemont State Hospital in Terra Alta, WV. She retired after 26 years with Garrett Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren in Eglon, WV. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, word search puzzles, and cooking for her friends and family.
Friends will be received at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Tuesday, August 22, from 10 AM- 2 PM, the funeral hour, with Rev. Carl Fike officiating. Interment will follow in the Eglon Cemetery.
