Jerome K. “Jerry” Moyer, 87, of Oakland, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018. Born on September 22, 1931 in Nanticoke, PA, he is the son of the late Earl and Leona (Wallace) Moyer and was an honorably discharged veteran having served in the United States Army for six years at Ft. Hood, TX. Jerry began his career in 1955 with the state of Maryland as an assessor. He progressed to supervisor of Garrett County Department of Assessments and Taxation in 1964 and then retired from the position in June 1984. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Proctor-Kildow American Legion Post #71, Knights of Pythias, Garrett County Historical Society, a past member of Rotary Club and a charter member of Elks Lodge #2481. Jerry loved hunting and spending time at his cabin and in the woods with his family. He was a very social person who enjoyed breakfast at Englander’s, organizing class reunions and making everyone laugh. Jerry is survived by his wife, Delores E. (Swartzentruber) Moyer; three sons, Jay Moyer and wife Joyce of Oakland, Kevin Moyer of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jeff Moyer and wife Helen of Red House; grandchildren, Eric Moyer and wife Becky of Oakland, Aimee Schwinabart and husband Troy of New Creek and Josh Moyer of Park City UT; and four great granddaughters. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Richard Moyer. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, November 27 from 3-7 PM and from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, November 28 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Oakland at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Dr. Scott Robinson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army, Proctor-Kildow American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. Interment will be held in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
