Jean Winters

February 4, 1927 — July 16, 2019

No more clacking of typewriter keys or the soft sounds of the organ in the Winters' home on Red Hill. Bonnie Jean Miller Winters, 92, of Eglon passed away in the early morning hours of July 16, 2019 at Dennett Road Manor in Oakland, MD, where she had been a resident since April 2017. She was born February 4, 1927 in Davis, WV, the only child of the late Drs. Harold C. Miller and Blanche Bonsack Miller, longtime physicians of Eglon.

Jean, as she was known by most, was a homemaker, gardener, quilter, and long-time local newspaper correspondent. She was a wife, workmate, and love of Claude W. Winters, just three months from 75 years of marriage. Together they ran a successful dairy farm on Red Hill. She was a very active member of the community; she was a charter member of the Eglon Extension Farm Women's Club, a 4-H leader, a trustee for the Eglon Memorial Building, served on the Preston High School Advisory Board as well as on the Preston-Taylor Community Health Centers and was instrumental in creating the Eglon Clinic. Jean was a life-long member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, librarian, pianist, and organist.

She is survived by her husband, and children: Carl (Nancy) Winters of Denver, CO, Linda (Tom) Lewis of Eglon, WV, Rebecca (Paul) McCollum of Scottsville, KY and Mary (Richard) Norwish of Eglon, WV ten grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Bonnie Jean was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

At the request of Mrs. Winters, she will be cremated. There will be no services at this time. Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family at www.hinklefennerfuneralhome.com
