James Long Zimmerman, Jr., 74, of Oakland passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 21, 2015. Born on June 3, 1940 in Uniontown, PA, he was the son of the late James Long and Katherine Elizabeth (Morris) Zimmerman. He obtained a Master's degree from Catholic University and taught advanced mathematics at Southern Garrett High School for over 30 years. In addition to teaching, he was a pianist and a composer, and wrote with passion to teach people about fracking. He is survived by his wife Lois Elaine (Kalbaugh) Zimmerman; his three daughters, Kimberly Read and her husband Edward, Kathleen Zimmerman, and Elizabeth Zimmerman; his two grandsons, Joshua Read and David Zimmerman; stepchildren, Clark "Allen" Sharpless and wife Cheri and Shannan Thorhauer and husband John; and step grandchildren, Derek McCauley and wife Beccah, Morgan Thorhauer, and Ryan, Nicholas and Brett Sharpless. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey. His friendship and guidance will always be cherished. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or Grace Reformed Church, 126 E. Liberty Street, Oakland, MD 21550. The Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is assisting the family with arrangements.
