James Walter Simms, 72 of Oakland, MD, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011 at his home.
Born August 25, 1938 in Aleppo, PA, he was the son of Helen (Jones) Simms and the late Howard Simms. He was also preceded in death by a son-Jimmy Simms.
Jim was a graduate of WVU , an avid supporter of WVU sports, founder and former owner of Green Acres Garden Center, worked 36 years as the Garrett County Extension Agent, past President of the Oakland Lions Club and a member of the Oakland Elks Lodge #2481.
Surviving are: wife-Jane (Bissett) Simms; son-Jason Simms, Cincinnati, OH and grandchildren-Carson and Beau Simms; brother-Steve Simms and wife, Sheila, Aleppo, PA and sister-Diane Stewart and husband Danny, Paden City, WV.
Family and friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd Street, Oakland, MD, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Oakland Elks Lodge #2481 with the Rev. Don Matthews officiating.
Inurnment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
