James Peacock

James Pierson (Jim) Peacock, III, 78 of Deep Creek Lake in Oakland, MD, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Thomas More Medical Center in Hyattsville, MD. Jim was born February 25, 1933 in Altha on a farm in Calhoun County, located in the Florida Panhandle. He was pre-deceased by his parents: James Pierson (J.P.) Peacock, Jr. and Vergie Bailey Peacock. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Altha High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Air Force. During this time, he was trained and served as an airplane mechanic. After he returned to civilian life, he worked at Graham Air Base in Jackson County, Florida. In the 1960's, he moved to Maryland, near where he was stationed while in the Air Force at Friendship Airport, now known as Baltimore-Washington (BWI) Airport and remained there until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Oakland, MD, two brothers: Robert P. Peacock of Damascus, Maryland and David Peacock of Altha, Florida; two sisters: Mary Lou Taylor of Blountstown, Florida, Martha Hassell of Thomasville, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held in the Deep Creek Baptist Church in Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:30 a.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St, Oakland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Family Life Building Fund of Deep Creek Baptist Church in memorial to Jim! 19841 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550

Interment will follow in the Chipola Cemetery in Altha, Calhoun County, Florida in a private service.
