James Arden Metz, 73, of Oakland died on Monday, September 8, 2014 at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in WV. Born on June 17, 1941 in Mt. Lake Park, he was the son of the late James A. and Mabel J. (Sweitzer) Metz. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired iron worker and a member of the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. Jim was also an art school graduate and, after his retirement, used his talent to create beautiful pieces of art. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Elaine (Friend) Metz; four children, James Metz and wife Pinkie of West Point NY, Joyce Hensley and husband Robert of Friendsville, Mark Metz and wife Alicia of Mt. Lake Park and Jeannie Griffin and husband Mark , Sr. of Grantsville; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Dunchan of MI and Judy Werebaugh of Swallow Falls; a brother, Ron Metz of Mt. Lake Park; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St, Oakland on Thursday, September 11th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, September 12th at 10 AM with Pastor Tom McGinnis officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens with military honors accorded by the United States Navy and combined honor guard of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 and Deer Park VFW Post 10077.
