James Harvey

James Hobart Harvey, 77, of Kitzmiller, MD, passed away on January 18, 2024, at his home.  Born on August 1, 1946, in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late James and Stella (Lucas) Harvey.  

Jim was a graduate of Elk Garden High School. He started his career as a miner at the age of 12, taking care of the ponies and loading coal until he could go underground. He was a certified foreman, fire boss, and EMT by the age of 30. His second career was that of a carpenter, working side by side with his wife.  His hobbies included hunting, trapping, harvesting ginseng, and fixing anything that needed fixed. He could fix anything mechanical, carve anything made of wood, and when he got bored, he started building computers and writing code.

He is survived by his son, James H Harvey and wife Leslie; grandchildren, Brittany Harvey-Green and husband Alex and James Travis Harvey; a brother, Tom Harvey and wife Sharon; nieces and nephews, Jamie and Brian, Kristy and Kevin, and Nick and Deanna; brothers in law, Tarzan Metz and wife Brenda, and Johnny Metz; extended family includes, Emily, Dustin, Chelsie, Tucker, Travis, and his cherished kitty Ole Hop Toad.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Donna Lee (Metz) Harvey; father and mother in law, Harold "Hoss" Metz and wife Frances "Frankie"; a  brother, Loren, a sister, Kelly; a half brother, Harold Harvey, and a half sister, Betty Wolf; sisters in law, Sandy Metz and Linda Metz; and a brother in law, Timmie Metz.

Jim's wishes to be cremated will be honored and a service will be held at a later date. 

The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., is honored to be serving the Harvey family at this time.
