James Gaither

James Grant Gaither, 72, of Bayard, WV passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born on March 6, 1941 in Bayard, he was the son of the late Edwin and Pauline (Miller) Gaither. Jim, as he was known to all, graduated from Bayard High School in 1960, then joined the United States Army and served our country, stationed in Korea, during the Vietnam War. After returning, he made his home in Bayard. He was an underground coal miner for 27 years and loved to spend his free time hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Mt. Top Hunting Club, the West Virginia American Legion and had served as a councilman for the town of Bayard. Jim loved his family and friends, was always willing to help whomever he could and will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Phyllis Arlene (Smith) Gaither of Bayard; daughters, Tammy Lynn Eggleston and husband Daniel and Beth Ann Friend and husband Chad, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Brady Kitzmiller, Savanna Kitzmiller, Ashley Eggleston, Emily Eggleston and Ava Ann Friend, all of Oakland; sisters, Nina Sisson of Bayard, Ruth Ann Cooper of Oakland and Frances Bosley of Gormania, WV; and a number of nieces, nephews and in-laws. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Robert, Edwin "Dude" and Harry Gaither; and sister, Lucy Pase. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, December 3rd from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Danny Gaither officiating. Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery.
