James Alfonce Finch, 80, of Oakland, died on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on October 17, 1943, in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late William A. and Kathleen (Costello) Finch.
Jim was a 1962 graduate of Southern High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was the owner and installer of Finch's Discount Carpet Store in Oakland. He was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Oakland, Oakland Elks Lodge #2481, Deer Park Sportsman's Club and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. In his free time, Jim enjoyed humane hunting and fishing. In his earlier years, Jim loved playing baseball and was known for his superb pitching skills.
He is survived by his son, Jim Finch and wife Lee of Oakland; grandchildren, Marrissa and Kameron Finch, and James Oliver; great grandchildren, Ashlynn and Emma; sisters in law, Rosalee Finch, Debbie Finch, and Jayne Thomas, all of Oakland; brother in law, Robert Brown of TN; partner-in-life, Linda White of Oakland; former wife, Carole Maxson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Brown, and brothers, Franklin George Finch, William Thomas Finch and Robert L. Finch.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, on Friday, October, 27, 2023, from 10 AM to 12 PM. A funeral service will be held at 12 PM with Pastor Mark Weeks officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Kalbaugh Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV.
