Irene Schrock

Irene A. Schrock, 61, of Oakland died on Friday, December 16, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. Born on November 7, 1955 in Catlett, VA, she was the daughter of Albert C. and Lydia J. (Yoder) Bender of Virginia. She was baptized on her confession of faith in her youth and was a member of the Gortner Amish Church where she was very involved as a church trustee and Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed being a part of the Sewing Circle and liked to spend time knitting and quilting. Irene had an adventurous spirit and loved to be outdoors enjoying various hobbies such as hiking, camping and flower gardening. She also deeply cared for animals, taking care of all varieties. She will be remembered as extremely hard working, unselfish, fiercely independent, extremely hospitable and very open. These attributes gave her the courage to battle cancer for thirteen years. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 38 years, Calvin E. Schrock; children, Rebecca Schrock of Fairmont, WV, Joel E. and Ella Mae (Swartzentruber) Schrock, Daniel R. and Carol (Peachey) Schrock, Ernie L. Schrock and Nathan W. Schrock, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Kaleb, Kristen, Annika and Lori Schrock; brothers and sisters, Esther married to Lloyd Beachy of Oakland, Martha Bender of Mt. Sterling, KY, Sarah married to Jr. Kauffman of Wytheville, VA, and Henry Bender married to Nancy (Yoder) of Oakland; and a sister in law, Rachel Bender. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Bender. Family and friends will be received at the Gortner Amish Church on Saturday, December 17th from 6 to 9 PM and on Sunday, December 18th from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the church on Monday, December 19th at 10 AM with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Interment will follow in the Gortner Amish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or The Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, 1650 Orleans St., RM 189, Baltimore, MD 21231-1000. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland has assisted the family with arrangements.
