Homer Fred Colaw, 72 of Oakland, MD, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Western Maryland Health Center, Cumberland, MD.
Born March 19, 1938 in Crellin, MD, he was the son of the late Dennis Clinton and Crystal Gwendolyn (Shaffer) Colaw.
Fred was a veteran serving with the United States Navy and retired from Westvaco having worked in multi-craft. He was a member of the Proctor Kildow Post 71 of Oakland, MD, Deer Park VFW, Deer Park Sportsman Club, member of the Board of Directors of the Oakland Golf Club, Past President of Oakland-Mt. Lake Lion's Club, coach of Oakland Little League and Pony League Baseball and the Oakland Jets Youth Football. He was an all around athletic at Southern High School having earned 16 varsity letters.
Surviving are: wife-Annis (Friend) Colaw; son-Jeffery Colaw and wife, Jennifer, Queenstown, MD; brothers-Dennis "Xie" Colaw and wife, Betsy, Keystone Heights, FL and Ron Colaw and wife, Sue, Greenwood, SC; aunt-Lena Colaw, Oakland; uncle-Robert Shaffer and wife Gretchen, Oakland and two grandsons.
Family and friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. 2nd St., Oakland, MD, Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Crellin United Brethren in Christ Church with the Rev. Edward Calhoun and Rev. Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
Military services will be accorded at graveside.
