Herbert Myers

Herbert Hoover Myers, 87, of Kitzmiller died on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his home. Born on October 30, 1928 in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Jasper C. and Harriet I. (Harvey) Myers. He was a graduate of the Kitzmiller High School. Hoover joined the Maryland Army National Guard on October 13, 1947. He was called to active duty from 1954 to 1956. He retired on October 30, 1988 as a Platoon Sergeant. Prior to his military service and throughout his life, he was self-employed as a farmer and school bus contractor for Garrett County. He started driving bus for the schools in 1953 and became a contractor in 1963. He was active in many agricultural committees including the Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors for Southern States. He was also a member of the Deer Park VFW Post #10077 and American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71. In addition to spending time with his family, Hoover enjoyed spending time on his farm, hunting, fishing and, especially, collecting his Allis-Chalmers tractors. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth E. "Beth" (Iman) Myers; two daughters, Harriet E. Johnson and Rebecca K. Biser and husband Randall, all of Kitzmiller; grandchildren, Erica E. Hook and husband David of Friendsville, Robert R. Biser of Kitzmiller and girlfriend Megan Stolbom of Oakland; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth J. Hook, Nicolas P. Hook and Alexander D. Hook; and one sister, Helen Faye Greenwalt and husband Clyde of St. Louis, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, a young Ruth Ellen Myers and an infant baby girl; and his siblings, Isabelle M. Wilson, Clarabelle E. Myers, Wilbur H. Myers, Warren J. Myers, Esther V. Evans and Laurence H. Myers. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, February 27th from 1 to 3 PM, after which time a memorial service will be held with Pastor Matthew A. Paugh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
