Helton Bentley

Helton "Buddy" Bentley, 77, of Oakland died on Monday, September 15, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born on May 6, 1937 in Etty, KY, he was the son of the late Theodore Ray and Belle (Stewart) Bentley. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Buddy retired, after 27 years of service, from Island Creek/Consol Coal and had also worked on natural gas wells prior to working in the mines. He was a faithful member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren in Mt. Lake Park. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and, especially, spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela (Fike) Bentley; sons, Chris Bentley and wife Holly of Jessup and Mike Bentley of Oakland; grandchildren, Alana, Heather, Tyler, Kody and Nathan Bentley; a sister, Melpha Taylor of Virgie, KY; a brother, Johnny Bentley and wife Rubie of Virgie, KY; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Tackett and a brother, Samuel Bentley. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, September 18th from 5 to 8 PM and at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Friday, September 19th from 9 to 10 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Carl Fike officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the combined honor guard of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 and the Deer Park VFW Post 10077. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, 110 Church Lane, Mt. Lake Park, MD 21550.
