Hazel Lake Wingo, 87, formerly of Swanton, MD died on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland. Born on March 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Edison Lake, Sr. and Nellie Frances (Powell) Lake Durst. She was a graduate of the Oakland High School class of 1944. She started her career as a secretary, having worked primarily at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. She is survived by a daughter, Connie S. Hunter and husband Robert J. of Vienna, VA; a son, Archie L. Wingo and wife Karen of Syracuse, UT; four granddaughters; one great granddaughter; two great grandsons; a brother, Arthur Edison Lake, Jr. of Swanton; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Forest Wingo, in 1987 and a brother, James A. Lake in 2011. The family will receive friends at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St, Oakland on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 9 to 10 AM immediately followed by a memorial service with Pastor Randy Nairn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the House of Hope, 202 S 4th St, Oakland, MD 21550.
