Harry Gaither

Harry E. Gaither, 81, of Bayard, WV died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 15, 1931 in Bayard, he was the son of the late Edwin and Pauline (Miller) Gaither. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Airborne Division during the Korean War. He retired after 36 years of service from Columbia Gas. He was a member and superintendent of the Bayard United Methodist Church, a member of the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department, Mt. Top Medical Center Board, Mt. Top Hunting Club, American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 in Oakland and was a little league manager as well as working as a score-keeper for Union High School. He had a deep faith in the Lord and enjoyed spending time with his family, singing, time outdoors, hunting, fishing and sharing wisdom with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cora "Alice" (Cosner) Gaither; his children, Peggy Riggleman and husband Randy and Harry Allen "Ace" Gaither and wife Trudy, all of Bayard; grandchildren, Carrie Gaither Slaubaugh and husband James of Bayard, Jessica Gaither of Bayard, Noah Gaither of Bayard, Zach Riggleman of Morgantown and Isaac Riggleman of Bayard; great grandchildren, Trevor Kitzmiller, Cole Kitzmiller, Hunter Gaither, Candace Slaubaugh and Chanda Gaither; siblings, Nina Sisson of Bayard, James Gaither and wife Phyllis of Bayard, Ruth Ann Cooper and husband Bradley of Oakland, Frances Bosley and husband Wayne of Gormania, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Edwin Dude Gaither, Roy Nelson Gaither, Robert Gaither and Lucy Pase. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, October 19th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Additional visitation will be held at the Bayard United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 20th from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Shelba Sisler and Rev. Sam Moon officiating. Interment will follow in Bayard Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bayard United Methodist Church, PO Box 157, Bayard, WV 26707 or Grant Memorial Hospice, 100 Hospital Dr., Suite 2, Petersburg, WV 26847.
