Harry Beeghly

Harry Beeghly, 92, of Oakland, died on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Dennett Road Nursing Home. Born on April 14, 1924 in Oakland, he was the son of the late Harry R. and Elmina (Sisler) Beeghly. Harry was a graduate of Oakland High School. On the path to becoming a talented carpenter, he took his first job with A.D. Naylor and Company who sent him to trade school for laying tile. He was later employed by Bill Shirer Construction and Devlin Inc. Harry was a member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years where he served time as a Captain. He was also a member of Oak Park Church of the Brethren and Gortner Union Church where he served as an usher and on countless committees throughout his life. Harry's love of gardening and the outdoors stemmed from growing up and working on his family farm. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a great Dad. Harry is survived by his children, Susan E. Beeghly and partner Dave Mehaffie of CO, Donna L. Schrier and husband Hugh of Oakland, Sandra L. Simpson and husband Roger of Mt. Lake Park, Randall R. Beeghly and wife Tina of KS, Thomas R. Beeghly and partner Deb Stone of Oakland; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Jane Johnston of Oakland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia B. (Davy) Beeghly, in May 2012; and two brothers, an infant, Roy and John Wade Beeghly. Friends will be received at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Gortner Union Church, 4391 Mason School Road, Oakland on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Carl Fike officiating. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Interment will be in Gortner Union Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Dennett Road Nursing Home for the fine treatment of their father while he was in their care.
