Harold Kitzmiller

April 25, 1939 — June 2, 2022

Elk Garden

Harold "Kitzy" Junior Kitzmiller, 83, Elk Garden, WV passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.

Born on April 25, 1939, on the family farm "back in Walbash" in Elk Garden, WV, Harold was the son of the late Clyde and Hannah (Junkins) Kitzmiller.

Harold was a proudly retired Coal Miner from Island Creek Coal / Consol Energy where he worked underground for 25 plus years and was a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He also served 3 years in the Keyser National Guard followed by the Army Reserves. Harold was a member of the Mountain Top Hunting Club.

Harold leaves behind many friends and family who loved him. He loved sharing his stories, opinions and life experiences of coal mining, his passion for history (Civil War and WWII) and hunting for artifacts (arrowheads and Civil War bullets), metal detecting, coin collecting, genealogy and his love of camping many years at the Arnold Farm on the South Branch River in Romney, WV.

Harold never knew a stranger, he enjoyed talking about anything and everything and just "BS-ing" as he would say. He was an avid reader and loved to read about history and share his knowledge with others.

Our Dad died a loved and important man. A man that was very proud of his children and grandchildren and he loved them dearly.

Harold is survived by a daughter and two sons, Brenda Kelbaugh and son-in-law Gene of Elk Garden, Earl Kitzmiller of Mt. Storm, WV and John Kitzmiller and daughter-in-law Melanie; three grandchildren, Trevor, Cole and John "Jp" Kitzmiller; ex-wife, Violet Kitzmiller of Mt. Storm, WV; and a brother, Dale Kitzmiller of Elk Garden, WV.

Harold chose the selfless act of being an organ donor, a gift that will honor his legacy. He will be cremated with a Celebration of Life Service to be held on a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a monetary donation, in his memory, to the Elk District Ambulance Service, PO Box 183, Elk Garden, WV 26717.

A special Thank You to his friends at the Coal Bucket Restaurant and Staggs Crossing for loving him and cherishing his presence and his Coal Mining buddies, Ricky Sharp and John Gibson.

The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Kitzmiller is honored to be assisting the Kitzmiller family.
