Harland "Buss" Friend

Harland G. “Buss” Friend, 85, of Swanton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 10, 2018. Born on November 25, 1932, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Bruce and Della (Rexroad) Friend. Harland and wife, Betty, formerly resided in Glassport, PA for 54 years before moving back to Swanton in 2003. He had worked at Tube City Iron & Metal in West Mifflin, PA for 45 years. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the Army and a member of the VFW. He attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and enjoyed being retired. Buss was a hard worker and always loved and provided for his family. He loved people and making them laugh and going to the Swanton Senior Citizen dinners and the Swanton Community Center dinners. He enjoyed joking and spending time with his grandson, Harland, and playing with his great grandkids and loved working in the hayfield with his grandson, Bud (Randy). He is survived by his two daughters, Glenda Sharpless and husband Randy and Katherine A. Davey and husband Gary; two grandsons, Randall Sharpless, Jr. and wife Chrissy and Harland Sharpless and wife Jennifer; four great grandchildren, Lauren, Kendall Emily and Levi, all of Swanton; a brother, Clerance Friend and wife Clara; a sister in law, Mary Friend; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty M. (Jones) Friend and three brothers, Sherman, Howard and Joseph Friend. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, November 13th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday, November 14th from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Carl Lee officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army, American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. Interment will be in the George Cemetery, Swanton. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all who took such good care of Dad at the Western MD Health System and Cumberland Health Center. "Thank you so much!"
