Grace Bachtel

Grace Iona Wolfe Bachtel, 94, of Horse Shoe Run, WV passed away peacefully at the home of her son on May 31, 2015.

She was born June 14, 1920 at home in Horse Shoe Run, WV a daughter of the late George Isaac and Nina May Henline Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Fredrick Bachtel, also preceding her in death, 1 sister-in-law, Geneva Junkins.

She is survived by 1 son, Carl Fredrick (Cynthia Wilt) Bachtel, Eglon, WV, 2 grandchildren; Adam (Kelli Myers) Bachtel and Mark (Seegee Kisner) Bachtel, 5 great-grandchildren; Taylor Elizabeth Moats, Sarah Grace Moats, Kaden Garrett Bachtel, Ryelle Grace Bachtel, and Alden Aris Bachtel all of Eglon, WV, brother and sister-in-laws; Gene (Bernadine) Bachtel, Eglon, WV, Kenneth “Bub” (Donna) Bachtel, Oakland, MD, Glenn (Joann) Gehman, Lititz, PA, Ray (Pauline) Best, Seaford, DE, and Juanita Blamble, Port St. Lucie, FL.

Mrs. Bachtel was employed by the Preston County Board of Education, She taught at Rhodes, Eglon, Cross Roads, and Erwin schools. However, she mostly taught third grade at Aurora Elementary School. Grace and Clifton were married at Gnegy Church on October 19, 1951. He passed on April 23, 2004. They loved taking bus trips for many years. They also had a dairy farm. Grace loved growing flowers, reading, having a vegetable garden, canning, doing genealogy, yard sales, but most importantly, she loved helping people in the community. She was a very active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Horse Shoe Run Farm Women’s Circle, member of the WV Association of Retired School Employees, Union District Senior Citizens, leader of the All Day Sing at the Bethel Church for almost 50 years, and helped with birthday parties at Hopemont Hospital and Cortland Acres.

Friends will be received at the Aurora Memorial Building, Monday, June 1st, 2015 from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM.  On Tuesday June 2, 2015 a visitation will be held from  10:00 AM until 11:00 AM the funeral hour at the Bethel United Methodist in Eglon, WV with Rev. Cheryl George officiating. Interment will follow in the Texas Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
