Gordon Long, Sr.

Gordon Sylvester Long, Sr., 81, of Cabins, WV, passed away on September 8, 2022, at Winchester Medical Center. Born on April 6, 1941 in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late Gerald and Marie (Day) Long.

Gordon worked as a self-employed truck driver. He enjoyed musical instruments, especially playing guitars, and tinkering with cars and their motors. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debra J. Long; their children, James Suthard and wife Jennifer of Petersburg, WV, Gordon Suthard and wife Rose of Falling Waters, WV, Deborah Long-Oliveto and husband Jared Inskeep of Morgantown, WV, Kimberly Mayle and husband Skip of Inwood, WV, Tammy Garcia and husband Alfredo of Lumberton, NC, Lee Long and wife Kara Cloud of Hampton, VA, and Gordon S. Long, Jr., and wife Barb of Charlottesville, NC; nineteen grandchildren, Chris McLamara, Crista McLamara, Shaina Barr and husband Randy, Michia Cummings, Alex Vozikis, Michael Arthur, Santiago Godoy, Serapio Godoy, Destinea Robinette, Stephanie Kuykendall and husband Dareck, Corie Mayle, Ashly Mayle, Jordan Suthard, Charles Stevens, Kayla Peterson, Kalista Oliveto, Ashley Breeden and husband Tim, Samantha Mongold and husband Josh, Sabrina Shoenthal and husband Marcus; thirty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild in the making; four sisters, Darlene Rice, Sheila Warnick and husband Elmer, Goldie Hinkle and husband Larry, and Virginia Wratchford; and ex wife, Nancy Harmon Sparks, the mother of their children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Long and Donald Johnson, and two sisters, Rosemary Howard and Rosalee Dibell.

Friends will be received on Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Red Creek Bethel Church with Pastor John Moyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Flanagan Memorial Cemetery.
