Glenroot "Glen" John Piper, 77, of Oakland, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at his home. Born on June 2, 1945, in Royal Oak, MI, he was the son of the late Frankie Walter and Ruby Eva Jane (Dilley) Piper.
Glen served in the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam War. He began fostering children, and in 1982, was appointed to the Foster Care Review Board. Glen was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a branch president and held various counsel positions. Over the years, he worked for the family business, Piper Building, specializing in building materials for contractors. After the family business closed, he went to work for Manor Home Center. He enjoyed hunting and loved every aspect of a car; he collected books and magazines on the history of cars. He enjoyed tinkering with old stuff to create something new and useful. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Kay (Posey) Piper; six children, Loretta Christiansen and husband Marty, Patrick Piper and partner Melanie, Glendale Piper, Matthew Piper, Chris Piper, and Sharon Holstein and husband Brian; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Fritz Piper and wife Susan, and Leif Piper and wife Barbara.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jean Piper in March of 1992.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St. Oakland. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11 AM with John White officiating. Interment, with military honors accorded by the combined honor guard of Proctor Kildow American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077, will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
