Gerard “Jerry” Joseph Maynard, 92, of Winchester, VA, formerly of Oakland, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2019. Born on January 3, 1927, in Providence, RI, he is the son of the late Euclid and Beatrice (Parmentier) Maynard.
Jerry grew up in Scituate R.I. where he worked on the Maynard Dairy Farm. Jerry was a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Finance and a Master's degree in Finance from American International College, Springfield MA. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1949-1953, stationed in Germany. Jerry had a long and successful career with Farm Credit Land Bureau in Springfield MA and St. Louis MO. Jerry also worked in the Chicago area and in Baltimore MD.
Jerry and Beverly married in 1998, and retired to Oakland where they built a beautiful retirement home. Jerry enjoyed boating, bird watching, travels, and was a philatelist.
He treasured his time with his extended family. The Dove Center advocacy and counseling, St. Matthew Episcopal Church, and high school students in Oakland benefited from his philanthropic endeavors. Jerry conducted financial seminars at the local Junior College as part of a senior learning experience. In 2017, they moved to Winchester Virginia.
Jerry will be joyfully remembered by his wife of 21 years Beverly; children, Gerard (Kathleen) Maynard, Edith (Thomas) Auchter, and Carolyn Maynard; grandchildren Stephen Maynard, Patrick Auchter, John (Jawayria) Auchter, and Carolyn Auchter, and one great grandson: also loved by Ronald Gregory (Tara) Peterson, Donna (Gregan) Crawford, Barbie (Jim) Dawson and their children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd Street, Oakland on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 10am-12pm. A funeral service will then be held on Friday at 1 PM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 126 Liberty Street, Oakland with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. Interment will be held in Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the combined honor guard of American Legion Post #71 and Deer Park VFW Post # 10077.
