Gerald Slaubaugh

February 23, 1945 — December 18, 2018

Gerald Webster Slaubaugh, 73, Eglon, WV, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Dennett Road Nursing Home. Born February 23, 1945, in Mt. Grove, WV, he was a son of the late Webster Wade and Fayetta William (Griffith) Slaubaugh. He was preceded in death by sisters, Janet Simmons and Darlene Davis and brothers Wade, Victor, Ronald and Donnie Slaubaugh.
He is survived by brother Lowell “Mick” Slaubaugh and wife Stephanie, brother Sam Slaubaugh, Shirley Slaubaugh brother Ralph Slaubaugh and wife Ruth, sister Sheila Thomas and husband Willie, sister Rhonda Thomas and husband Roger, sister in law Rosemary Slaubaugh and numerous nieces and nephews. He was an avid music lover and in his younger days enjoyed going out dancing with family and friends. One of his biggest passions was planting and tending to his beloved plants. He could be found on a lot of weekend nights enjoying a dirt track race and at home tuned into NASCAR. Putting puzzles together was a favorite activity on rainy days and in the winter. He had an astonishing collection of salt and pepper shakers that he cherished. He loved to bake and share his goodies with family and friends. Christmas was a loved and cherished holiday and guests enjoyed his exceptional display of decor as they celebrated Christmas with him. Yard sales was his favorite past time in the summer. He worked many jobs over the years before enjoying early retirement. His love of caring for others was reflected in his nurse aid position at Hopemont Hospital while his love of the outdoors earned him much praise from supervisors removing brush and tree branches from a power line project and his attention to detail earned him respect from coworkers at the Chicken plant in Oakland. The family would like to extend a big thank you to the staff at Dennett Road Nursing home and Garrett Regional Medical center for their excellent care of our loved one and a very special thank you to Dr. Savopolous for providing extraordinary care for so many years.
A viewing will be held Thursday, December 20th 6-8 PM and Friday, December 21st 1-2 PM at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis, WV, with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 PM with Rev.
