George Victor Futch, Jr., of Oakland, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at his home. Born on December 24,1937 in New Smyrna, Florida, he was the son of the late George Sr. & Ruth Pauline (Widner) Futch. George was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Tommie M. Futch; a daughter, Patricia Ann Cleveland; sister & brother-in-law, Susan and Lou Durbin. He is survived by sons Johnnie Smith and partner Lynn, George V. Futch, III and wife Claudia, Frank Futch and wife Serena, Woodrow Futch and wife Kathy, Leonard Futch and wife Julie; daughters, Pauline Beeten and husband Richard, Margarette Futch. George and Tommie have many grandchildren and great grandchildren from the East coast to the West coast, 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren in total. George worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local 37 International Union of Operating Engineers for 55 years. He worked on many local jobs near and in Garrett County including Jennings Randolph Lake, Route 68 project and Sideling Hill in the late 80's. More recently he worked on the backfill crew for the Oakland Walmart. George was the Scoutmaster for Troop 48 from Kitzmiller. He enjoyed his gardens and canning with Tommie in the fall. In his early years of life, he was an avid motorcycle rider and racer in Fort Pierce, Florida. In accordance with George’s wishes, he will be cremated and his family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
